Newfoundland maintained its own coinage distinct from the Canadian federal system until Confederation in 1949, and this series reflects that stubborn independence. The London-struck pieces of this run came from the Royal Mint at Tower Hill, while the 1936 issue — decades later — would mark the last Newfoundland cent ever struck. Edward VII died in May 1910, ending the reign these coins represent, though the type had already ceased production the year before his death.
