Trinidad and Tobago's proof coinage of this period was produced under contract by the Franklin Mint, which aggressively marketed sets to collectors worldwide throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s. The silver proof cent exists almost exclusively in that collector context — the circulating version was struck in bronze and never in silver for general use. Franklin Mint's production model meant these sets were often issued in large quantities relative to the country's collector base, which has kept secondary market premiums modest despite the silver content and nominal mintage figures.
