Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse features two allegorical figures flanking a central round hole: at left, a seated Marianne wearing a winged helmet and draped robes holds a fasces, personifying the French Republic; at right, a kneeling female figure in Asian dress leans upon the central perforation, representing Indochina. The denomination '1 CENT' appears in the lower field on a scroll-like tablet, with the mint mark 'A' (Paris) below, and the engraver's signature 'DANIEL DUPUIS' at lower right. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' arcs around the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border and executed in high relief consistent with piedfort striking.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays four large Chinese characters arranged around the central round hole, reading 百分之一 (one hundredth), with the characters distributed in the four cardinal quadrants of the field. The Latin legend 'INDO - CHINE FRANÇAISE' curves along the upper periphery, and the date '1896' is prominently struck along the lower margin. Two concentric beaded circles frame the central design, with a dotted inner border enclosing the Chinese characters and an outer beaded rim defining the coin's edge. The overall composition elegantly combines Chinese script with French colonial typography in a bilingual design typical of French Indochinese coinage.
