Two Guys was a discount department store chain that operated across the northeastern United States from the late 1950s through 1982. Like several large retailers of that period, it issued its own scrip for use in promotional schemes — typically as change tokens or spendable certificates redeemable only within the store, a tactic designed to keep money circulating back through the registers rather than out the door.
These pieces occupy an odd corner of notaphily: technically private commercial scrip, not legal tender, yet printed in note format and collected alongside Depression-era merchant currency and coal company scrip.
