| Obverse description | Central field features the double-headed Imperial eagle, the coat of arms of Russia, displayed with spread wings and detailed regalia. The legend ВЕЛИКАЯ РОССИЯ (Great Russia) arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination ОДИН ЧЕРВОНЕЦ (One Chervonets) is inscribed along the lower rim. The design is rendered in high relief against a smooth field, bordered by a beaded inner circle near the rim. |

The Chervonets denomination revived under Soviet monetary reform carries its own layered history, but this restrike issued under the Russian Federation explicitly honors Paul I — the Tsar assassinated in 1801 after a reign of just four years, largely despised by the Russian nobility he antagonized at nearly every turn. The original Paul I gold coinage was itself historically thin, his short reign producing limited numismatic output before the coup that killed him.
Federation-era restrikes of this type were produced for the collector market, not circulation.
