Opmerkingen

The Cochrane Dollar is a local currency initiative launched in 2017 by the Cochrane Monetary Foundation to encourage residents to spend within the town rather than driving to Calgary, roughly 40 kilometres east. These complementary currency schemes — sometimes called BerkShares-style local scrip — have had mixed results across North America, with most folding within a decade due to low merchant uptake and the friction of managing a parallel exchange system.

Printed locally in Cochrane rather than through a commercial security printer, which means authentication features are minimal compared to regional currencies issued elsewhere in Canada.
