Obverse description A finely detailed depiction of a multi-masted Spanish galleon under full sail occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with intricate rigging and billowing sails. The vessel is shown broadside, sailing upon stylized waves in the lower field. The legend 'CONCH REPUBLIC' arcs along the upper periphery in bold raised lettering, while the date of the republic's founding, 'APRIL 23, 1982', appears along the lower periphery. A continuous border of raised beads frames the entire design.

Additional information

The Conch Republic declared independence from the United States on April 23, 1982, after a U.S. Border Patrol roadblock on U.S. 1 near Florida City effectively cut off the Florida Keys from the mainland — treating American citizens as foreign nationals entering the country. Mayor Dennis Wardlow's secession lasted roughly one minute before the Republic surrendered and immediately applied for foreign aid. The micro-nation has since sustained itself largely through tourism and the sale of novelty documentation.

This 2006 issue falls under Krause's "X" catalog designation for fantasy and cinderella pieces — not legal tender by any conventional standard, but actively promoted as such by the Conch Republic itself.
