The Banco Nacional de Nicaragua was a state institution performing dual functions — simultaneously acting as a commercial bank and a central bank — an arrangement that persisted until the Banco Central de Nicaragua was established in 1961. Notes of this period were issued under that awkward hybrid authority, not by an independent central bank.
ABNC printed extensively for Central American issuers throughout this period, and the P#91 series was a relatively short-lived run, superseded within a few years as Nicaragua renegotiated its printing contracts.
