| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare-headed effigy of King Edward VIII facing left, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The portrait depicts the King in a naturalistic, uncrowned style with finely detailed hair. The surrounding legend reads EDWARD・VIII・KING・&・EMPEROR, separated by raised dots, and is contained within a beaded border that runs along the coin's rim. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before any coins bearing his effigy entered official circulation in British territories. This East Africa crown is a pattern issue, struck in anticipation of a reign that lasted less than a year. The Royal Mint had advanced preparations for colonial coinage, but abdication rendered the entire production run obsolete before distribution.
Catalogued under the X# prefix — Krause's designation for unofficial and pattern issues — rather than the main sequence, which tells you everything about its status.
