Tej Narasimha Malla ruled Patan for less than a year before the Gorkhali forces of Prithvi Narayan Shah captured the Kathmandu Valley in 1768–69, extinguishing the independent Malla kingdoms permanently. This dam was struck in the final years of that reign, making it among the last copper coinage issued by Patan before the Shah dynasty absorbed the valley's mint operations entirely.
