A single line of Arabic legend appears above the central panel within the inner circle, with additional marginal legend surrounding the design in the outer annulus. The die-struck lettering is bold and angular, characteristic of mid-8th century Islamic coinage. Small decorative pellets or ring ornaments punctuate the marginal inscription at intervals. The overall design follows the purely epigraphic, aniconographic tradition established by the Umayyad reform coinage. |
