Reverse description Printed in blue, the reverse is dominated by an elaborate guilloche underprint with large numeral 1 panels at left and right. A central oval vignette depicts a sailing vessel and a steamer before a dramatic mountainous coastline, enclosed within an ornate scrollwork frame surmounted by the British Royal Arms with lion and unicorn supporters. The Latin motto MISCERIQUE PROBAT POPULOS ET FOEDERA JUNGI appears below the central vignette, and the printer's imprint is present at the foot of the note.
