British Honduras was already a constitutional anachronism by the time this series opened — a Crown Colony whose independence movement had been running since the late 1940s, complicated by Guatemala's longstanding territorial claim to the entire country. That claim was not merely rhetorical; Guatemala refused to recognize British Honduras as a sovereign entity and periodically threatened annexation, which kept British military garrison troops stationed there well into the 1970s.
Bradbury Wilkinson printed this series from their New Malden works, a facility responsible for a significant share of Commonwealth colonial currency during this period. The run spans two decades precisely because the political status question remained unresolved — the country did not become Belize until 1981.
