Trinidad and Tobago gained independence in August 1962, but the Central Bank itself wasn't established until 1964 — meaning this note inaugurated the institution as much as the currency. The delay between independence and the creation of a proper central bank was partly deliberate; the government inherited existing monetary arrangements from the British Caribbean Currency Board and chose a cautious transition rather than an abrupt break.

Bradbury Wilkinson produced the series from their New Malden works, a firm with deep colonial-issue experience. The fractional serial number prefix variant — where a fraction rather than a single letter precedes the number — was a capacity management device used when a single prefix letter would have exhausted available numbering runs.
