Bermuda's Silver Wedding commemorative was issued to mark the 25th wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 1972 — one of dozens of such coins struck by Commonwealth territories that year, most coordinated through the Royal Mint. The Bermuda Monetary Authority, established only in 1969, was still a young institution when it authorized this piece, making it among the earliest proof issues in the territory's modern coinage program.
