This merchandise gift certificate will be accepted in exchange for any McDonald's food product in the amount of one dollar at any participating McDonald's restaurant in Canada. Local taxes payable by bearer.

McDonald's Canada issued these notes as internal gift certificates redeemable at participating Canadian locations, functioning more as scrip than conventional currency. They were not legal tender and carried no government backing — their status as collectible notaphilic material is largely incidental, a byproduct of the same impulse that drives collectors toward transit tokens and department store coupons.

The 2001 series is among the later issues before the chain shifted entirely to plastic gift card formats, rendering paper redemption notes like this one obsolete within a few years of printing.
