This "Monuments by Moonlight" series was produced for the collector market by a European mint-and-distributor pipeline, with Fiji's nominal authorization a formality rather than a sovereign initiative.
Easter Island's moai were carved by the Rapa Nui people, with major construction occurring between roughly 1400 and 1650 — well before European contact in 1722. The island has been Chilean territory since 1888.
