Nauru has issued commemorative silver dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, producing themed issues that circulate almost exclusively within the collector market — none reach the island's roughly 10,000 residents as functional currency. The 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, was a particularly crowded subject for mint programs worldwide, with dozens of issuing authorities producing licensed commemoratives under agreements with the IOC.
