Casino scrip issued by the Playboy Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, which operated from 1981 until the Gaming Commission revoked its license in 1987 — one of the more publicized regulatory actions in New Jersey's early casino history. The revocation stemmed from the Commission's finding that Playboy Enterprises was not suitable to hold a gaming license, largely due to associates with organized crime connections. Hefner's printed signature on the scrip is a curiosity: he was never directly implicated, but the license loss ended Playboy's only American casino operation.
