Reverse description Reverse of this small hammered gold fanam displays an abstract, highly stylized design struck on an irregular planchet, featuring a cluster of raised pellets or bosses arranged in the lower field, accompanied by linear and foliate elements in low relief. A diagonal raised bar or ridge crosses the upper portion of the field, consistent with the characteristic reverse type of Cochin fanams of this period. The design is deeply worn and conventionalized, with no discernible inscription. The flan edges are ragged and uneven, a natural consequence of the hammering technique employed at the Cochin mint.
