Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing draped and helmeted bust of an allegorical female figure representing Albania, her ornate helmet surmounted by a prominent crest with flowing plumes and decorated with a laurel branch. A small earring is visible at the ear, and the lower truncation bears the engraver's signatures G. ROMAGNOLI and MOTTI INC. in incuse lettering. The bicameral legend ALBANIA-SHQIPNI is inscribed vertically along the right field. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style characteristic of Italian medallic art of the period.

Aanvullende informatie

Albania's 1927 coinage program was managed almost entirely by Italian financial interests following Mussolini's aggressive economic penetration of the country through the Albanian National Bank, itself an Italian-controlled institution established in 1925. This piece is a prova — an official trial strike submitted for approval rather than a coin struck for general release. Most provas from this program were produced in very small numbers at the Rome Mint, and survival rates are accordingly low.
