A small earring is visible at the ear, and the lower truncation bears the engraver's signatures G. ROMAGNOLI and MOTTI INC. in incuse lettering. The bicameral legend ALBANIA-SHQIPNI is inscribed vertically along the right field. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style characteristic of Italian medallic art of the period. |

Albania's 1927 coinage program was managed almost entirely by Italian financial interests following Mussolini's aggressive economic penetration of the country through the Albanian National Bank, itself an Italian-controlled institution established in 1925. This piece is a prova — an official trial strike submitted for approval rather than a coin struck for general release. Most provas from this program were produced in very small numbers at the Rome Mint, and survival rates are accordingly low.
