正面描述 Full-length facing figure of Saint John the Baptist depicted in high relief at center, robed in a long mantle with detailed drapery folds, raising his right hand in blessing and holding the Lamb of God (Agnus Dei) in his left arm. The saint's nimbus is visible around his haloed head, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of early 15th-century Frankfurt coinage. The surrounding circular legend reads S. IOHANNES BAPTISTA in uncial Latin characters, enclosed within a beaded border.

附加信息

Frankfurt's goldgulden issues of this period were struck under the city's own mint authority, a privilege the Free Imperial City guarded fiercely against encroachment from both the archbishop of Mainz and the counts of Hanau. The Rhenish goldgulden standard, codified by the Kurverein of 1386, bound Frankfurt's output to a fineness agreement shared with Mainz, Trier, Cologne, and the Palatinate — deviation risked exclusion from the trade network the coin existed to serve.

Fr#937 is among the scarcer civic goldgulden attributions of the early fifteenth century. Frankfurt's total minting volume during these fifteen years was modest against the output of the electoral mints.
