| Obverse description | Full-length frontal figure of St. John the Baptist, nimbed and draped in flowing robes, standing facing on a small shield bearing the Frankfurt eagle. The saint raises his right hand in blessing and cradles the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) in his left arm, the lamb's head turned toward the viewer. The figure is framed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend distributed around the periphery between the inner and outer beaded borders. |

| Reverse description | An imperial orb surmounted by a cross, set within a Gothic quatrefoil whose four lobes are defined by a beaded inner border. The field surrounding the quatrefoil carries the titles of Emperor Karl V in Gothic (black-letter) script, with the date 1522 incorporated at the close of the legend. The composition follows the established Rhenish goldgulden type, reflecting Frankfurt's status as an imperial city entitled to strike gold coinage. |
