| Beschrijving keerzijde | Reverse bearing a legend in Kannada script, reading 'Shri Vira', inscribed in large cursive characters occupying the central field. The script is rendered in the rounded, flowing style typical of Kannada epigraphy of the early eighteenth century, with the characters boldly raised against a plain field. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hammered manufacture. |

The Madurai Nayak kingdom was in terminal decline by this period — effectively a vassal of the Marathas after Chanda Sahib's campaigns, with the throne changing hands repeatedly through the early eighteenth century. Coins of this type were struck under the last Nayak rulers before the dynasty was extinguished entirely by the Marathas in 1736.
