Beschrijving voorzijde Bimetallic coin with a brass center insert set within a copper-nickel outer ring, both elements exhibiting a gold-toned finish. The central disk bears the legend EESTI VABARIIK (Republic of Estonia) in curved lettering along the upper arc, with the large numeral 1 prominently displayed in the field below and the denomination KROON incused beneath. Two small dots flank the numeral at mid-field. The outer ring carries the inscriptions ESTONIA along the upper arc and ESTONIAN KROON along the lower arc, separated by a fine beaded border that delineates the junction between ring and center.

Aanvullende informatie

Estonia reintroduced the kroon in 1992 after fifty years of Soviet occupation had erased it entirely from circulation. The decision to restore the original currency name — rather than adopt a neutral transitional unit — was a deliberate act of institutional continuity with the interwar republic. The kroon was pegged to the Deutsche Mark at 8:1 from the moment of reintroduction, a currency board arrangement that left the Bank of Estonia almost no discretionary monetary policy for nearly two decades.

The bimetallic format was adopted for the 1 kroon specifically to deter counterfeiting at the highest-circulation denomination.
