Thomas De La Rue printed this series for Burma during a politically turbulent stretch that saw Ne Win's 1962 military coup sever the country from its parliamentary government. The notes remained nominally valid through that transition, which is somewhat unusual — the new regime did not immediately repudiate the currency series it inherited from the civilian Union Bank.

The ten-year print window across 1958–1968 suggests multiple print runs, and date variants within P#46 exist. Collectors should distinguish carefully between pre- and post-coup issue dates, as the political context of each print run differs substantially despite the notes appearing superficially identical.
