| 表面の銘文 | ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ BARRE 1869 |
| 裏面の説明 | The numeral 1 appears prominently at the top of the field, above the Greek denomination ΛΕΠΤΟΝ in bold capital letters, with the word ESSAI (trial/pattern) inscribed below in Latin characters. The denomination is surrounded by a wreath composed of two symmetrical olive branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The overall design is clean and uncluttered, typical of French pattern coinage of the period. A beaded border encircles the reverse. |

Greece's 1869 pattern coinage was produced in the context of ongoing monetary negotiations as the country weighed full integration into the Latin Monetary Union, which it formally joined in 1868. Patterns from this period were struck primarily at Paris and served as submissions for ministerial approval rather than public circulation — most were produced in extremely limited numbers, often fewer than a dozen surviving examples per type.
KM#E4 is among the more elusive of the George I essais.
