| Opmerkingen |
Iquitos in 1921 was effectively an island — reachable only by river or air, with no road connection to Lima that would come for decades. The Jefatura Política y Militar, a regional military-civil authority, issued this note under conditions of genuine monetary isolation rather than administrative convenience. Lima's approval was distant in every practical sense.
The libra peruana de oro was Peru's gold-standard unit at the time, though nothing about a locally printed emergency issue from the Amazon basin suggested gold backing. Printed in Iquitos itself, the note belongs to a small cluster of regionally produced Peruvian issues from the early 1920s that collectors frequently undervalue relative to their actual scarcity.
