Reval — modern Tallinn — operated under Swedish crown authority by 1664, having passed from Polish-Lithuanian suzerainty following the Northern Wars of the previous century. The city retained limited municipal minting rights under Carl XI, though the young king was still a minor at this date, with the regency council effectively governing Sweden and its Baltic possessions. Municipal issues from Reval are scarcer than their Stockholm contemporaries; the city's output was small, and Baltic trade wore these coins hard.
