| 正面描述 | Four Chinese characters arranged in a cruciform pattern around a central square hole. Reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left in the traditional manner, the inscription reads 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo), identifying this coin as currency of the Sangpyeong (Ever-Normal) Treasury of the Joseon Dynasty. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) within a plain, unadorned field, with no additional decorative elements. |

Cast — not struck — at one of the numerous provincial military offices authorized to produce cash coinage under the Joseon dynasty, this issue dates to a period when minting rights were deliberately distributed across dozens of government bureaus to manage chronic copper shortages. Each furnace used a different reverse mint mark, making KM#340 one of dozens of closely related varieties produced under the same nominal authorization. The specific casting bureau can often be confirmed only by that reverse mark.
