Reverse description The reverse celebrates Peru's contribution to the Ibero-American coin series with a dynamic composition evoking colonial and pre-Columbian heritage. A mounted horseman in traditional dress rides across the lower-left field, accompanied by a llama, while an enlarged depiction of an earlier Ibero-American series coin occupies the right portion of the field, its inscriptions legible in relief. Above, a stylized pre-Columbian figure is rendered in high relief against a frosted background. The legend PERÚ appears in the lower-left field, with the commemorative inscription XX ANIVERSARIO · SERIE IBEROAMERICANA along the lower exergue.

Additional information

The nuevo sol was introduced in 1991 as part of a radical stabilization program designed to kill an inflation rate that had reached 7,650% in 1990 under the García administration. This coin marks twenty years of that currency surviving — an achievement genuinely worth noting given that its predecessor, the inti, lasted less than a decade before being wiped out by the same crisis the nuevo sol was created to fix.
