The Comuna de Pampapana is a small rural municipality in Colombia's Bolívar department. Like several Colombian municipalities in the 2000s, it issued local complementary currency — socalled moneda social — as a tool for stimulating internal trade and reducing dependence on the national peso in underserved communities. These issues circulated hyperlocally and were typically produced in very limited quantities, which is why catalog references for this series remain sparse.
