| Obverse description | The tughra (imperial monogram) of Sultan Mahmud II is centrally positioned within a square cartouche, rendered in flowing Arabic calligraphy characteristic of Ottoman hammered coinage. The design fills the inner field with interlocking strokes of the tughra, the irregular flan and crude striking giving the device a bold, relief appearance typical of provincial Ottoman copper issues. The square border frame is clearly defined despite the uneven planchet, and the surrounding field is plain. |
