Obverse description Crude bust of the king facing left, depicted wearing a conical striated helmet with a prominent nasal guard and a diadem band across the brow, rendered in the bold, schematic style characteristic of late Viking-age Norse coinage. The king holds a sceptre or sword before him, with flowing drapery suggested by incised lines at the shoulder. Decorative pellets and annulets fill the field around the effigy. A partially legible Latin legend surrounds the design, interrupted by the irregular flan edge.
