Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of King Harthacnut facing left, holding an upright scepter before him. The effigy is rendered in the schematic Anglo-Scandinavian style typical of early 11th-century Viking Age coinage, with the crown depicted as a simple radiate or stepped form. The bust is enclosed within a plain inner circle, surrounded by an outer border of alternating pellets and small cross motifs. The Latin royal legend runs around the periphery between the two borders.
