Harthacnut ruled Denmark while simultaneously holding England — or attempting to — and his coinage reflects the administrative chaos of managing two kingdoms across the North Sea. The Hauberg 44 type is among the rarer issues of his Danish series, struck during a reign constantly interrupted by his rivalry with Magnus of Norway and his prolonged absences preparing an invasion fleet he never ultimately launched against England before his half-brother Harald Harefoot's death handed him the throne peacefully.
