Obverse description Central field bears an elaborate cursive royal cypher composed of intertwined letters, surmounted by a jewelled ducal crown with elaborate foliate finial. The date 1758 appears in Roman-style numerals at the base of the design. The entire central device is surrounded by a finely executed border of raised beads. The composition is rendered in a clean, classical engraving style typical of mid-18th century British milled coinage.
