Opmerkingen

Arenys de Mar was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities forced to print their own emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican government's coin shortage became acute after 1936 and small change effectively vanished from circulation. These local emissions — collectively catalogued as "moneda municipal" — were authorized by the Generalitat de Catalunya, which gave towns considerable latitude in execution. The results varied wildly in quality.

Imprenta Ausetana, based in Vic, supplied notes to multiple municipalities across the region, which occasionally makes attribution tricky when stamps are faint or missing. The official stamp is the only security element distinguishing a valid issue from a printer's surplus.
