| Opmerkingen |
The Consell Municipal de l'Argentera issued this emergency local currency during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small-denomination coinage. Municipalities across Catalonia — including tiny villages — were authorized under the Generalitat's 1936 emergency decrees to print their own fractional notes and cardboard vouchers to keep local commerce functional. L'Argentera, a small town in the Camp de Tarragona with only a few hundred inhabitants at the time, produced one of the more modest issues in the Turró catalog.
The thick card format is characteristic of these Catalan wartime emissions — essentially printed on whatever stock was available locally. Survival rates vary wildly across the series; issues from smaller municipalities were often never formally withdrawn and simply disintegrated in use.
