The Consejo Provincial de Badajoz issued emergency paper money during the Spanish Civil War, when the collapse of normal coin circulation forced municipalities and local councils across Republican and Nationalist zones alike to print their own fractional currency. This 2003 piece is a facsimile reproduction, not a circulating note — the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre produced it as part of a commemorative program revisiting Spain's wartime local issues, decades after the originals had largely vanished from circulation through attrition and postwar suppression.
Badajoz itself fell to Nationalist forces in August 1936, making the window for any genuine provincial issue extremely narrow.
