Batea is a small municipality in the Terra Alta comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns, it resorted to locally printed emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage all but vanished from circulation. These municipal issues — collectively catalogued under the broader *billetes locales* classification — were produced under almost no oversight, which is why surviving examples vary so dramatically in print quality and paper stock even within the same series.

Turró 319 is among the less-documented Terra Alta issues, and genuine used examples are harder to locate than many better-known Catalan municipals.
