Bayarque is a village in the Sierra de los Filabres in Almería province — population in the hundreds even today. Like dozens of tiny Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, its council issued its own emergency paper fractional currency when Republican-zone coinage essentially disappeared from circulation after 1936. These hyper-local emissions were often produced on whatever stock was available, sometimes typewritten or rubber-stamped, with minimal security features. The Gari Mon catalogue reference being incomplete signals how poorly documented many of these village issues remain.
