Baza is a small town in Granada province, and its municipal council issued emergency paper money during the Spanish Civil War — one of hundreds of local ayuntamientos and consejos that printed their own fractional currency after the Republican government's coin shortage became acute in 1936–37. The Gari Monetary catalogue reference places this squarely within that documented series of Andalusian municipal issues.
These local emissions were never legal tender beyond their immediate municipality, which is why survival rates vary so sharply — notes from smaller towns like Baza were redeemed locally or simply discarded once central Republican currency was restored.
