Escatrón is a small coal-mining municipality in Zaragoza province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its municipal council issued its own emergency fractional currency when Republican-zone coinage disappeared entirely from circulation in 1936–37. The hoarding of metal and the breakdown of normal supply chains left communities with no practical medium for small transactions, and local bodies stepped in with whatever printing resources were at hand.
The Gari Montllor census documents these Aragonese local emissions meticulously; the 607-C designation suggests this is one of several known varieties from Escatrón, distinguished by stamp color, text placement, or paper stock.
