Honduras issued a series of peso-denominated notes in the 1920s through the Banco Atlántida and related institutions, but this note comes directly from the República — a distinction that reflects the transitional monetary arrangements of the period before the lempira replaced the peso in 1931. The American Bank Note Company held long-standing contracts across Latin America during this decade, and Honduras was a routine client.

Four years after this note's issue date, the entire peso series was demonetized when the lempira was introduced at par with the U.S. dollar, rendering all outstanding peso notes exchangeable at a fixed rate of 2 to 1.
