Produced for the centennial of Emilio Aguinaldo's birth, this pattern was struck by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas as part of a broader commemorative program exploring designs that never entered circulation. Aguinaldo's complicated historical standing — revolutionary hero against Spain, president of the short-lived First Philippine Republic, but also a figure implicated in the assassination of rival Andres Bonifacio — made him a politically charged choice for a national coin even in 1966.
