Obverse description Left-facing bareheaded effigy of Ceres, her long flowing hair elaborately adorned with a wreath of small putti (cherub figures) entwined among the tresses, in the neoclassical style characteristic of Barre's work for the French Second Republic. A five-pointed star appears in the upper field above the head. The encircling legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE runs along the periphery, with the engraver's signature BARRE F. inscribed in the lower exergue. A fine toothed border frames the entire design.

A five-pointed star appears in the lower field beneath the wreath. The circular peripheral legend PRESSES MONETAIRES DU CHILI arcs around the upper and sides of the design, identifying this piece as a trial striking for the Chilean monetary presses. A toothed border frames the entire reverse.
