| Obverse description | Left-facing bareheaded effigy of Ceres, her long flowing hair elaborately adorned with a wreath of small putti (cherub figures) entwined among the tresses, in the neoclassical style characteristic of Barre's work for the French Second Republic. A five-pointed star appears in the upper field above the head. The encircling legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE runs along the periphery, with the engraver's signature BARRE F. inscribed in the lower exergue. A fine toothed border frames the entire design. |
