Müncheberg was a prisoner-of-war camp operating under German military authority during World War One. Camp-issued pfennig scrip of this type was a deliberate administrative measure — it prevented prisoners from accumulating Reichsmark currency that could fund escape attempts or black-market dealings with guards, while also keeping internal camp commerce nominally functional.

Otto Lange's Berlin print shop produced scrip for multiple camp authorities during the war, which means this note shares a production lineage with similar issues across the German PoW system rather than being a bespoke local commission.
