Obverse description A spread eagle displayed facing left, wings outstretched, with a small escutcheon on its breast bearing a repetition of the same eagle motif. A royal crown surmounts the shield, with a decorative ribbon below it. The Berlin Mint mark 'A' appears at the base of the design. The eagle is rendered in a formal heraldic style typical of the German Imperial coinage of the Wilhelmine era.
