Opmerkingen

Oflag II-D was a German prisoner-of-war camp for Polish officers located at Gross Born (now Borne Sulinowo) in Pomerania. This 1 Piast note was issued by the camp's own internal "bank" — a functional institution that allowed captive officers to conduct controlled transactions within the wire, a system the Germans permitted under the Geneva Convention's provisions for officer camps. The Piast was the unit of account specific to this camp; it had no value outside it.

The handstamp security feature is the only authentication device — unsurprising given the production circumstances. Camp scrip of this type was produced under significant material constraints, and the issuing authority existed only as long as the camp did.
